Unfight is built around a simple promise: your conversations belong to you. We don't have servers that store your chats, we don't have an account system, and we don't track you across the internet. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain English, exactly what data touches your device, what (if anything) leaves it, and what rights you have.
Unfight (the "App") is an iOS application that helps couples communicate more calmly during and after conflict. The App is published by the Unfight team ("we", "us", "our"). You can contact us at hello@unfight.app.
The App stores the following information locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to back it up via Apple's built-in iCloud device backup:
kSecAttrAccessibleWhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly, meaning they are encrypted, tied to your device, and not synced to iCloud.
The App uses OpenAI (openai.com) as its AI provider. The AI-powered features are:
The only data transmitted is the text you have voluntarily typed or selected inside the relevant feature. We do not transmit your name, email, contacts, photos, audio, location, device identifiers, health data, or any data you have not explicitly entered. Requests are sent from your device directly to OpenAI's API (api.openai.com) over HTTPS/TLS; we do not intercept or relay this traffic. Under OpenAI's standard API terms, data submitted via the API is not used to train OpenAI models.
Explicit in-app consent. The first time you open any AI feature (Translate, Icebreaker, or Recap), the App shows a dedicated consent dialog that clearly discloses what is sent and to whom. The AI feature will not function unless you tap Agree & Continue. If you tap Not now, no data is transmitted and the feature stays inactive. You can reconsider this choice at any time from Profile → Clear local data, which also resets the consent state.
The OpenAI request is governed by OpenAI's terms and privacy policy:
If you provide your own OpenAI API key, those requests are billed to your OpenAI account and logged by OpenAI under your account, not ours. If you use Unfight without providing a key, AI features will show a friendly error instead of calling any service.
Because Unfight doesn't send your data to servers we operate, we use information only on your device to:
If GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, our legal basis is:
Your local data stays on your device for as long as you keep the App installed. You can remove everything in two ways:
Data you sent to OpenAI is retained by OpenAI according to their policies. Please consult their Privacy Policy for details on retention and how to request deletion of data held by OpenAI.
Unfight is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. Relationship communication is a sensitive subject, and we believe the App is most helpful for adult romantic partners. Please do not install or use the App if you are under 18 in your jurisdiction.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you have discovered a security issue, please email security@unfight.app.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. Because we don't actually hold any of your data on our servers, you can exercise these rights directly on your device via Profile → Clear local data and Export records. For rights relating to data held by OpenAI, please contact OpenAI directly.
If we meaningfully change how the App handles data, we'll update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also surface a notice in the App before the change takes effect.
Questions, concerns, or feedback are welcome at hello@unfight.app.
This Privacy Policy is provided in good faith and in plain English. It describes the App as of the version indicated above. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
